What comes after your first freediving course?

This may be the most overlooked part of learning freediving.

A beginner course gives you a foundation.

It does not finish your education.

The period immediately after a course is actually extremely valuable because you finally possess enough knowledge to begin noticing what you do not yet know.

Continue diving.

Practice with competent buddies.

Consolidate your technique.

Work on equalization rather than simply trying to force greater depth.

Repeat safety procedures.

Spend time in the water without setting personal records every session.

And when you encounter a limitation, identify what kind of limitation it is.

Is it technique?

Equalization?

Tension?

Fitness?

Breath-hold tolerance?

Lack of experience?

Fear?

Poor recovery?

Training structure?

The further you progress in freediving, the less useful “just try harder” becomes as an answer.

Good training becomes increasingly specific.
